The 1990 Freed Hardeman Preachers and Church Workers Forum was on a key issue facing the church. Much preparation went into this program. A good attitude was maintained by the panelists and the audience throughout the forum.

The most significant feature of this forum was the irenic and Christian mood that prevailed. There, was no attributing of diabolical motives to fellow panelists. This event will be seen as a landmark event as churches of Christ enter the 21st Century. It is the "instrumental music" of our time.

A discussion of great importance. Mitchell and Randolph propose women elders deacons, and preachers in the church today. To them, Bible restrictions on women came from "cultural bias." McWhorter and Gilmore tie Bible restrictions of women to creation. To them, "inspiration" will not relegate women "having authority" to "cultural lag" by the church today.
